St
Petersburg - Moscow Cruise
Moscow
Moscow The domes of several of the cathedrals, and to the right the bell tower, in the Kremlin are visible in this view from the Moskva River. |
Moscow The Kremlin is to the right, with the squat shape of Lenin's tomb in front of the wall, and in the back left is St Basil's Cathedral. Red also means beautiful in Russian. |
Moscow A few of the domes of St Basil's, 1552. It was commissioned by Ivan the Terrible in memory of his victories over the Mongol-Tartars. The statues are of a mayor and prince who drove out occupying Poles from the city in the 1600's. |
Moscow The museum in the Kremlin contains, among other things, some royal regalia. The crown in the foreground is one of the earliest Tsar's crowns. Later they became a bit more European in style. |
Moscow This throne is entirely faced in ivory. |
Moscow This suit of mail belonged to Boris Gudonov, son-in-law of Ivan the Terrible and Tsar 1598-1605. Each link has been flattened and a prayer inscribed on it. |
Moscow Of 7 skyscrapers built in the 1940's, Moscow State University is the highest at 36 stories. |
Moscow This dome covers part of a modern underground mall near Red Square and the Kremlin. |
Moscow This is the interior view of the dome. The mall itself was virtually indistinguishable from a mall anywhere here. |
